SwimAware Bendigo is a program at Golden Square Pool that offers free basic water safety and swimming lessons to adults who haven’t had the opportunity to learn to swim.

Thanks to funding from LifeSaving Victoria, Swimming Australia and in partnership with the Loddon Campaspe Multicultural Services, the SwimAware program operates throughout summer.

The ability to swim and be safe around water is an important skill if you live in Australia. It means you can keep yourself, your family and others safe. It increases confidence plus it creates social opportunities and has lots of health benefits.

There are lots of reasons people may not have had the opportunity to gain these skills. It might be due to factors such as geographical origins, cultural or religious beliefs, financial disadvantage or simply lack of opportunity.
The program includes induction sessions to familiarise participants with the pool environment, aquatic safety and basic strokes. There’s an emphasis on social events and cross-cultural understanding to promote social inclusion.
